In today's episode, we'll hear Ángela tell us the story of when she and her boyfriend went to the CN Tower, a tourist destination in downtown Toronto, Canada, that has great views of Lake Ontario and the city.

They had been in a long distance relationship between Colombia and Canada for several years, but right now, Ángela is staying in Toronto. 

On this day, her boyfriend suggested that they visit the CN Tower together. Going up the 1,800 feet tall building is a popular thing to do when visiting the city, but for Ángela it became a particularly memorable experience. Let’s listen to her story!

Ángela: ¡Hola! Mi nombre es Ángela y soy de Colombia pero ahora estoy en Toronto.

Sebastian: Ángela is doing an English course in the city for her trabajo, her job back in Colombia. She's also in Toronto because her novio, her boyfriend is Mexican but he lives in Canada.

Ángela: Estoy en Toronto porque hago un curso de inglés para mi trabajo en Colombia, y también porque mi novio es de México pero vive en Canadá.

Sebastian: Although she's in Canada now, when she's in Colombia, Ángela and her boyfriend have a relación a distancia, a long distance relationship. Ángela says that they send each other messages, nos enviamos mensajes, and they speak on the phone todo el tiempo, all the time. However, they find it a bit sad, un poco triste, not to be together more often when she's in Colombia.

Ángela: Cuando estoy en Colombia tenemos una relación a distancia. Mi novio y yo nos enviamos mensajes y hablamos por teléfono todo el tiempo. Es un poco triste para nosotros no poder estar juntos más tiempo.

Sebastian: Of course, a relación a distancia can be difficult at times. As Ángela says, it's difficult to extrañar, to miss, your boyfriend all the time, but they are muy enamorados, very in love.

Ángela: La relación a distancia puede ser difícil. Es difícil extrañar todo el tiempo a tu novio, pero estamos muy enamorados.

Sebastian: Now that she's in Toronto, they can see each other more, they can be juntos every weekend.

Ángela: Ahora que estoy en Canadá podemos vernos más. Podemos estar juntos todos los fines de semana.

Sebastian: Today Ángela and her boyfriend have a cita, a date. They're going to visit the CN Tower. They plan on going to see el atardecer, the sunset and la ciudad de noche, the city at night. The tower is famous for its views and for being one of the tallest towers in the world, una de las torres más altas del mundo.

Ángela: Hoy mi novio y yo tenemos una cita. Vamos a visitar la CN Tower. La CN Tower es muy famosa por sus vistas y porque es una de las torres más altas del mundo. Nuestro plan es ir a ver el atardecer y la ciudad de noche.

Sebastian: She says that they arrive at the tower, llegamos a la torre, and Ángela thinks it's muy alta, very tall. They arrive justo a tiempo, just in time, to see the sunset.

Ángela: ¡Llegamos a la torre y es muy alta! Llegamos justo a tiempo para ver el atardecer.

Sebastian: Up in the tower, las vistas, the views are impressive. From the tower it's possible to see el lago Ontario, which is so big that Ángela thinks it looks like the sea, se parece al mar. They've chosen the perfect time to go to the CN Tower, as the lake is looking hermoso, beautiful, at sunset.

Ángela: Las vistas son impresionantes. Podemos ver el lago Ontario, ¡es gigante! El lago Ontario es muy grande, ¡se parece al mar! El lago es hermoso al atardecer.

Sebastian: It's night already, es de noche, and the city is looking gorgeous, preciosa, as the city lights are now on.

Ángela: Ya es de noche y la ciudad está preciosa con todas las luces encendidas.

Sebastian: And then something completely unexpected happens when they arrive at the last balcony of the tower. Ángela looks at her boyfriend and sees that he's de rodillas, he's down on one knee. Todas las personas, everybody, in the tower is looking at them.

Ángela: Cuando llegamos al último balcón de la torre miro a mi novio y... ¡está de rodillas! Todas las personas en la torre nos miran. Yo estoy muy confundida.

Sebastian: Ángela is confused, confundida, so she asks her boyfriend what he's doing, to which he replies that he wants to tell her something, quiero decirte algo.

Ángela: –¿Qué haces?

Novio: –Ángela… yo… quiero decirte algo…

Ángela: –¿Qué? ¿Qué pasa?

Novio: –Ángela, conocerte es un privilegio, amarte el mayor placer, tenerte como esposa mi mayor deseo, ¿te quieres casar conmigo?

Sebastian: Aww. Did you get that? Yes! He just proposed to Ángela! Let me help you understand what the exact words were: conocerte es un privilegio, knowing you is a privilege, amarte el mayor placer, loving you is the biggest pleasure, tenerte como esposa mi mayor deseo, having you as my wife is my greatest wish. And if you ever want to propose to someone in Spanish do not forget the most important part of the question: ¿te quieres casar conmigo?, will you marry me? Ooof! What will Ángela say?

Ángela: –¡Guau! Yo… estoy sin palabras.

Novio: –Oh, lo siento, igual es un poco pronto. Podemos esperar…

Sebastian: I think Ángela is still processing what's going on! She tells her boyfriend that she's speechless, estoy sin palabras. Her poor boyfriend is starting to think that he might need to wait, esperar, to ask this question again, that maybe it's a bit soon, igual es un poco pronto.

Ángela: –No, no. Es el momento más sorprendente de mi vida. Es tan bonito y tan inesperado...no sé qué decir…

Sebastian: Ángela says that this is the most surprising moment of her life, es el momento más sorprendente de mi vida. It's so bonito, beautiful, and inesperado, unexpected for her. She just doesn't know what to say. Her boyfriend suggests: just say yes?

Novio: –¿Di que sí?...

Ángela: –Sí, sí, sí. ¡Claro que sí!

Sebastian: What a surprise for Ángela! Congratulations to both of them! After a magical moment, Ángela and her prometido, her fiancé, talk about their future plans and the changes that they're both facing in their lives. Ángela is going to mudarse a un nuevo país, move to a new country and live in a new city.

Ángela: Después de ese momento mágico mi prometido, y yo hablamos de nuestros futuros planes y todos los cambios en nuestras vidas: mudarse a un nuevo país, a una ciudad nueva. Va a ser una nueva aventura para mí, pero por fin vamos a poder estar juntos.

Sebastian: Five years later, they're still happily casados, married, and they have una hija, a daughter, who they adore.

Ángela: Cinco años más tarde seguimos muy felizmente casados y tenemos una hija que adoramos.

Sebastian: What a surprising day for Ángela! Sometimes the happiest of moments come when you least expect them. And who would have thought that a visit to the CN Tower, of all places, was going to change her life!
