Hi, I’m Sen, and welcome to Today in History — the series where you’ll learn about what happened on this day in years past! What’s more, you’ll practice your English listening skills and learn a few new words along the way!

In each episode, you’ll hear about a set of historical events… twice. The first time, don’t worry about understanding exactly what is being said. Just listen, and feel the rhythm of the speech. Listening like this is a great way to get used to how English generally sounds. Then, the second time, you can try and focus more on the words, phrases and their meaning. If there’s some you don’t know, don’t worry, I’ll be picking out and explaining a few of the more difficult ones.

So, join me, as we discover important moments from the past — from the birth of Frida Kahlo, and the first Gay Pride rally, to the independence of Venezuela, and Chile’s first international soccer title.
