On July 30, 1930, the first FIFA World Cup Final took place in Montevideo, Uruguay. In front of 93,000 people, the hosts triumphed over Argentina in a 4-2 victory. The Uruguayan government declared the following day a national holiday. Before the match, there was a disagreement between the two teams over whose ball to use. FIFA came up with a compromise: Argentina provided the ball for the first half, and Uruguay for the second.
