On July 27, 1927, Tunisian-French lawyer Gisèle Halimi was born in Tunis, Tunisia. She devoted her life to defending human rights, and tirelesly championed feminist causes. She was instrumental in legalizing abortion in France, as well as abolishing the death penalty.

On July 27, 1972, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor was born. His maiden flight to the International Space Station in 2007 made him Malaysia’s first astronaut as well as the first Muslim to observe Ramadan in space. Sheikh Muszaphar is also an orthopedic surgeon and part-time model.
