Ooh this story got me really hungry! But before I go find something to eat, I’ve got a quick language tip for you. Today’s story was full of Dativ, one of the four grammatical cases of the German language. It can be a bit difficult to figure out when to use it, but a good place to start is to remember that prepositions always determine the case. For example, the prepositions aus, außer, bei, mit, nach, seit, von and zu always need to be followed by a noun in the Dativ case. “Eight prepositions?!”, I hear you say, “How will I remember them all?” – If you allow me to embarrass myself for you, I have a little song you can sing as a memory aid. Aus, außer, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu. Aus, außer, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu. Alright, that’s enough, you get the point.
