Ted: Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, has a new tourist attraction. What may look like a rescue operation is, in fact, calculated thrill or “kalkulierter Nervenkitzel”. At 160 meters, or more than 500 feet, the country’s tallest building is now open for thrillseekers, “Abenteuerlustige”, to take a walk “auf der Kante”, or, quite literally, on the edge. One visitor tells us that it’s only scary until you feel the tension of the rope, “bis man die Spannung im Seil spürt”. The building, a TV tower, was completed in 1980 when Lithuania was still part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, der Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken or “UdSSR”. So, are you ready for a thrill? Then let’s head to Vilnius!
