It can be difficult to be away from your family at the best of times, but it’s particularly hard when you’ve had to flee a war-torn country. We’ll hear from Anna, a Ukrainian student in Germany, who tries to speak to her family on the phone every day. Despite all her concerns, she’s still trying to look ahead, “nach vorne zu blicken”, and her only wish is for the war to end so that everyone can return home. Another Ukrainian student, Georgiy, is grateful for the humanitarian aid, but he does become thoughtful in connection to German politics, “aber etwas nachdenklich wird er im Zusammenhang mit der deutschen Politik schon”. Officially, the UN has registered over five million refugees from Ukraine since the outbreak of the war, “offiziell haben die Vereinten Nationen über fünf Millionen Geflüchtete aus der Ukraine seit dem Ausbruch des Krieges registriert”, with nearly 800,000 of them in Germany alone. Anna and Georgiy are two of very many, “sind […] zwei von sehr vielen”, who hope to return to normal life in Ukraine soon. Let’s hear what they’ve got to say.
