Ted: Our last clip of the week tells of a farmer who lives near the frontline in eastern Ukraine. The fighting there is threatening and omnipresent, “bedrohlich und allgegenwärtig”. As a consequence, the farmer, Vladimir, is not just concerned about his own wellbeing, “sein eigenes Wohlergehen”, but also about the condition of his fields, “den Zustand seiner Felder”. He was recently in his garden when he saw smoke rising from his crops, so he went over to his field to extinguish the fire. Shelling routinely sets fields on fire and destroys parts of the harvest, the livelihood of the local farmers, “Lebensgrundlage der ansässigen Bauern”. To make matters worse, summer heat and a drought have increased the risk of fire. Another resident is concerned, too, but, nevertheless, doesn’t want to leave her home.
